The Small-Multiple Watermark printing of the 5/- Grey & Yellow-Orange was made in 1929 and actually issued on 30 November 1929 in Melbourne. These marsupials were printed by JOHN ASH off one Plate with 120-stamps-on, in two Panes of 60 each in 10 horizontal rows of 6 stamps. Only 240,000 stamps were produced (same number as the First Watermark 5/-) in the single printing of the Small-Multiple Watermark Kangaroo. They were used as 'make-up' for higher Telegram Rates, Parcel and Bulk postage charges. THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS' CATALOGUE "KANGAROOS" (ACSC 2025) DOES NOT list this variety however it does list the 31 Varieties it does at CV$400 (2 x Varieties are listed at $325).
ROD BUCHKO (in his terrific study of the 5/- Kangaroo Stamp) identifies this particular variety at Plate Position L60 "SHORT TAIL & NICK IN UPPER OUTLINE"
This variety recurs across the 3rd Watermark printings to the CofA Watermark at Position L60. That is, it is the last Kangaroo at the bottom RIGHT of the LEFT PANE. Rod's Reference scan is included below.
