1930s Chocolate Amatller

Le Tesoro de Rabin

#36

Vintage 1930s Chocolate Amatller – El Tesoro de Rabin collectible card from Spain.

Issued as a promotional trading card by Chocolate Amatller of Barcelona, El Tesoro de Rabin is a colorful pre-war illustrated adventure series from the early golden age of animation and European confectionery cards.

The story follows Rabin, a mouse-like adventurer, and Kaifas, a black cat, through a series of chases, escapes, travels and comic situations. The cards form a continuous illustrated story, giving the set the feel of an early serialized cartoon adventure.

Rabin and Kaifas are not officially Mickey Mouse or Felix the Cat. However, their designs are strikingly similar to popular cartoon characters of the period, and it is possible they were created as unofficial knockoff or imitation characters inspired by Mickey Mouse and Felix the Cat. This type of borrowing and imitation was not unusual in early international cartoon and advertising artwork, making the set especially interesting from a historical perspective.
