art glass vases, heavily styled in the manner of Mt. Washington's famous Crown Milano

🏭 About the Company: Mt. Washington Glass Works
The Mount Washington Glass Works was founded in South Boston, Massachusetts, in 1837 by Deming Jarves. In its earliest days, the factory focused primarily on utilitarian pressed and blown glasswares. Following a temporary closure and ownership transitions, the operation was purchased by William L. Libbey and relocated to the coastal whaling port of New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1870.
It was during this New Bedford period (lasting until it was absorbed by the Pairpoint Corporation in 1894) that Mount Washington achieved worldwide fame. Under the brilliant direction of Frederick Shirley, the factory pioneered some of the most luxurious, innovative, and chemically complex luxury art glass of the Victorian Era.
They became universally famous for iconic glass lines including:
  • Burmese Glass: A heat-reactive glass that shades from soft translucent yellow at the base to a delicate salmon pink at the top.
