Eliot Warburton (1810–1852), Irish traveller, novelist and historian — clipped autograph signature, neatly cut from a longer letter or note and pasted onto an old 19th‑century album page. The signature reads “Eliot Warburton” in his characteristic flowing hand. Beneath it appears a contemporary ink caption in a different hand: “The Author”, typical of mid‑Victorian autograph‑album practice. A later owner has added a pencil identification: “1810–1852 Eliot Warburton”, correcting the dates and reaffirming the attribution.

Warburton was the author of The Crescent and the Cross (1844), one of the most successful travel books of the period, along with Zoë (1847), Memoir of Prince Rupert and the Cavaliers (1849), Reginald Hastings (1850) and Darien (1851). His dramatic death in 1852 aboard the RMS Amazon — lost with over 100 passengers and crew — has long added interest to his autograph material.

A clean, well‑presented example with strong provenance indicators: clipped signature, period caption, and later pencil identification, all mounted on an original album leaf. Ideal for collectors of Victorian literature, travel writing, and 19th‑century autograph albums.
