Original vintage colour portrait photograph of a United States Army soldier serving with the 82nd Airborne Division, believed to date from the WWII to early post-war period, circa 1940s.

The soldier is photographed in formal uniform wearing the distinctive short wool M1944 “Ike” jacket with shirt and tie. Part of the famous 82nd Airborne Division shoulder insignia can clearly be seen, including the “AIRBORNE” tab.

Also of particular interest is the braided shoulder cord/fourragère, together with his circular U.S. Army and branch collar discs. The 82nd Airborne Division received several distinguished foreign unit awards for its service in the European campaign,.

There appear to be no rank chevrons on the visible sleeves, suggesting that he was a Private at the time the portrait was taken.

A very attractive period military portrait with excellent uniform detail, particularly suitable for a collector of US Army, 82nd Airborne, paratrooper, WWII or post-war militaria and photographs.

Condition

Original vintage condition with considerable age-related wear. There are several noticeable creases and cracks across the photograph, including vertical creasing through the image, a diagonal crease/crack across the lower uniform area and wear around the edges and corners. The photograph remains complete and the portrait and important uniform details are still clearly visible.
