Unique sterling silver mounted presentation trophy relating to the West Surrey Rifle Club dated 1904.
The trophy features a moulded & ebonised wooden plinth to which has been mounted a brass bullet casing. An applied sterling silver plaque to the front of the trophy has been engraved:
"THIS BULLET WAS FIRED AT THE OPENING OF THE BROX SAFETY RANGE ON APRIL 21ST 1904 BY MRS L.J. BAKER AND WAS PRESENTED TO HER AS A SOUVENIR BY THE PRESIDENT MAJOR GENERAL F.G. BERKELEY AND THE COMMITTEE OF THE WEST SURREY RIFLE CLUB"
Weight: 278.3 gm. Height: 55 mm. Dimensions of Base: 82 mm x 48 mm. Hall Mark: The sterling silver plaque is hallmarked for sterling silver but does not include a maker's mark. I have not been able to identify the assay office (see photos). Retailer: Arthur Howard of Guildford, Surrey.
Summary: As an be seen from the photos this is a one-off presentation trophy from the early 20th century. A real talking point! Good luck!
