Beautiful vintage middle eastern-style collapsible lantern featuring a brass-toned metal top and base with an expandable accordion shade made from a coated fabric or parchment-like material.

The lantern holds a tea light or small votive candle in the center. When lit, the layered shade creates a warm, diffused glow and a striking sculptural silhouette. The curved metal handle allows it to be carried or hung for display.

This design is often attributed to Finnish Mid-Century Modern makers and is strongly reminiscent of the iconic “Maija Mehiläinen” lantern associated with Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara, though this example is being sold without maker attribution.
