Offered is an original Münchener Kalender für 1900, illustrated by noted German heraldic artist Otto Hupp (1859–1949).
This is the 16th annual edition of Hupp’s celebrated Münchener Kalender series and features elaborate color heraldic artwork depicting the coats of arms, helmets and crests of historic German and European noble families.
The calendar appears complete, with all twelve monthly calendar sections and their corresponding heraldic illustrations present:
* January – Holstein
* February – Oehringen
* March – Arco
* April – Degenfeld
* May – Dietrichstein
* June – Harrach
* July – Moltke
* August – Preysing
* September – Rosenberg
* October – Scha(es)berg
* November – Schlitz genannt von Görtz
* December – Waldbott
Also included is the impressive illustrated “Wappen und Stammbaum der Könige von Württemberg” (Coat of Arms and Family Tree of the Kings of Württemberg), along with historical/heraldic text and original publisher material.
The publisher’s own page identifies the 1900 edition and lists its featured families. Published by the Nationale Verlagsanstalt, Buch- und Kunstdruckerei, Munich.
Condition
Very attractive antique condition for a calendar more than 125 years old.
The color illustrations remain remarkably vivid, with strong reds, blues, yellows/golds and blacks. The calendar writing areas appear largely or entirely unused.
There is age-related wear, including edge wear, toning, small tears/losses and weakness/wear to the binding/spine. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
No modern restoration has been undertaken.
The survival of the twelve monthly heraldic plates together makes this an especially appealing example for a collector of Otto Hupp, German heraldry, genealogy, European nobility, Art Nouveau/Jugendstil-era graphic design, antique calendars or German printing.
