An original silver-grade Medaille d'Honneur du Ministere du Commerce et de l'Industrie, struck at the Marseille mint. Established by decree on 16 July 1886, this medal rewarded long and faithful service by employees and workers in French commerce and industry. It is one of the oldest civilian decorations of the French Republic.

The medal is in very good original condition with a warm, uncleaned silver patina and light surface wear consistent with age. The relief detail on both sides remains crisp. The Medal of Honour for Commerce and Industry was created in 1886 during the early years of the French Third Republic. It was awarded in bronze (30 years service) and silver (40 years service) grades, making the silver class the senior award. The medal was later absorbed into the broader Medaille d'Honneur du Travail system in 1948. The Marseille cartouche on this example reflects the city's importance as a major Mediterranean commercial and industrial centre.
