Vintage GDR NVA Medal for Faithful Service - Gold Class (15 Years)

An original Medaille für treue Dienste in der Nationalen Volksarmee (Medal for Faithful Service in the National People's Army), gold class, awarded for 15 years of loyal service in the armed forces of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Established on 1 June 1956, this medal was presented in the name of the Minister of National Defence to members of the NVA (Army, Navy, Air Force/Air Defence) and the Stasi.

Obverse

Reverse

Condition

Historical Context
The NVA was the armed forces of the German Democratic Republic from 1956 until German reunification in 1990. The Medal for Faithful Service was one of the most commonly awarded military decorations, with four classes denoting length of service: bronze (5 years), silver (10 years), gold (15 years), and a special gold class with XX clasp for 20 years. This gold class example represents a career spanning a decade and a half in the East German military establishment.
