7 Vintage Lead Plant Nursery Labels. Rose Varieties. Sutton Seeds Serpent.

Seven vintage plant/nursery lead labels, featuring the names of rose varieties. This type of label was produced from the 1940s onwards, and could be used by nurseries and gardeners to label individual plants in borders and pots. Originally available from Sutton Seeds, gardeners could purchase a stamping machine, called a Serpent, as part of a label-making kit. After stamping the plant name into the labels, the lead was then rubbed with a special paste to highlight the lettering. This listing is for the labels only, I do not have the stamping machine or paste.

Measurements: 18cm in length, with a width of 0.6cm and a thickness of 0.02cm. Please note that one length is 14cm long.

Rose varieties: Bridget, Peace (x2), Spek's Yellow, Condesa De Sastago (spelt 'Oondesa' on the label), McGredy's Sunset and Virgo.

The plant labels are in very good, used, condition. The soft lead is unbroken but a little kinked in places. (See photographs).
