This beautiful jewellery box is covered in gilded leather and lined with what appears to be seude. I would guess that it's Italian and dates to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.
The aged leather has a beautiful patina, and the padded suede interior is exceptionally clean.
The key is missing and the exterior has some signs of age and wear. This is particularly to the corners at the base, where the leather has worn away over years of use. There is a further split to the leather at the front left-hand corner, and a small area of loss at the top of the split - please see the photos.
The box measures a maximum of 23 cm (9 inches) by 16cm (6.25) inches, and stands about 7.5 cm (3 inches) tall.
An exceptionally attractive piece.
