Ferruccio Mengaroni (Italian, 1876–1925) was a famous Italian artist and ceramist known for his medusa work and the tragic accident that killed him in 1925 at Biennale of Decorative Arts in Monza when his medusa fell on him while setting up his exhibition. He was the most talented artist of all the maiolica painters in the Renaissance Revival style, famous for his exceptional reproductions. Mengaroni was deemed a dangerous artist for his copies of old maiolica which made it into several European museums, including the Victoria & Albert Museum. In 1908, Mengaroni set up a ceramic workshop in his house in Pesaro. He then opened his factory “Maiolica Artistica Pesarese" (M.A.P.) in 1920.
