Antique 19th century plaster cast of the foot of Hermes, from the 4th century Greek marble statue “Hermes and the Infant Dionysus” by Praxiteles. The original statue was excavated in 1877 and is housed in the Archaeological Museum of Olympia. A very similar plaster cast by D. Brucciani is housed in the British Museum. This cast is unsigned, but was likely either produced by Brucciani or cast using his molds.

Fantastic old patina. Very heavy solid Plaster of Paris with gypsum crystals visible throughout.

Casting is just under 14” long, by 5 7/8” wide, and stands about 6 1/2” high. Weighs 14.6 lbs. Has weathering, oxidation, cracks, and wear to the bottom edges. No breaks or repairs. Please zoom in and study all photos as they are part of the description.
