Custer’s Last Fight became one of the most widely reproduced American lithographs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with over a million copies distributed to saloons, restaurants, barber shops, and later collectors. Anheuser‑Busch used the image as a major advertising promotion for Budweiser, based on the Cassilly Adams painting (1885–1888). After Adolphus Busch acquired the original painting in 1892, artist F. Otto Becker and the Milwaukee Lithographic & Engraving Company produced a modified chromolithograph version beginning in 1896. The dramatic imagery, though historically inaccurate, was designed for emotional impact and became one of the most recognizable pieces of Western Americana and brewery advertising history.
