Vintage WW2 Era Wooden 6 Drawer Engineers Cabinet Toolmakers Jewellers Watchmakers Toolbox Tool Box Collectors with 2 Keys.

Here is a fabulous old engineers / toolmakers tool cabinet.

Full disclosure: There are loads of more refined and more recently made engineers boxes out there but I think you’ll be hard pushed to find one with so much charm.

I originally acquired it full of old tools, some of which I am selling in separate listings. It was like a time capsule. Some of the tools were marked with broad arrows and date stamped 1941 and 1945. One was marked Air Ministry 1941. NOTE: NO TOOLS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING, IT IS FOR THE BOX ONLY.

Some were inscribed with the name F. Simmons (including a set of Air Ministry calipers). I tried to research F. Simmons and I found a Flight Lieutenant Frank Simmons who was an engineer with the Air Ministry during WW2. I am unable to unequivocally verify it’s the right man so I can only make a guess that this was his box? You might be a whizz at research so I’d urge you to look into it before purchase if it’s important to you. I’m also making an educated guess at it being WW2 era, you may be a better judge?

Given its age it’s in lovely condition but I have waxed the wood and given it a general dust over.

There are 6 drawers.

Shaped corner protectors throughout.

Perfect for engineers, toolmakers and jewellers.

The lock has 2 keys.

All the drawers are present and they slide nicely.

She of the baize in the drawers has been renewed at some point I think and generally it’s quite tidy. There are a ome marks of course but still does the job.

The secure lever lock has two working keys.

All the handles are present and secure but I think they too have been renewed at some point.

Front flap still fits snugly and locks neatly. There are brass locating lugs/runners on each bottom corner and the flap is removable by pivoting the left side upwards when the flap is lowered flat.

There is a rear locating plate on the inside face at the bottom and it sits in a groove when locking the flap in place.

Top handle is in good condition and strong although there is some historic wear.

Bumps and dinks as you would expect.
