1796 WHITEHALL CLERICAL SLIP — GENERAL CHARLES STUART & CHEVALR. DE‑ALMEIDA Anglo‑Portuguese Ordnance Liaison — Revolutionary War Period

A short clerical French‑language forwarding slip, issued from Whitehall, dated 2d. December 1796, notifying Chevalier De‑Almeida, a Portuguese noble artillery/engineering officer, that the Grand Maître d’Artillerie (the British Board of Ordnance) had approved all his matériel requests, with several items already embarked.

The slip is written in a clerk’s hand, not that of General Charles Stuart (1753–1801), the senior British officer whose office handled foreign‑officer liaison and ordnance approvals during the Anglo‑Portuguese cooperation of the French Revolutionary Wars. French was the standard diplomatic language for such notices, and Whitehall routinely issued these brief administrative memoranda to Portuguese officers responsible for procurement.

Lieutenant-General Sir Charles Stuart KB (Jan 1753 – May 1801) was a British Army officer and politician who served in the American War of Independence and French Revolutionary Wars.
