Makumbe relocated from Zimbabwe to Cape Town around 2007, where he became part of a celebrated community of self-taught expatriate artists. He is recognised for his colourful township scenes incorporating hand-cut recycled Coca-Cola and Vodacom tin to create striking three-dimensional buildings. The use of recycled materials reflects both creativity and sustainability, with each artwork being individually handmade.
