Rare & highly attractive solid silver Scottish quoits prize medal dated 1877.
The front of the medal depicts two Victorian quoits players in high relief. The obverse is engraved:
"CARNWATH QUOITING HANDICAP. GAINED BY (Blank) 1877"
Weight: 38.6 gm. Diameter: 48 mm. NOTE: Although the medal is not hallmarked due to its date, if has been tested for solid silver.
Carnwath: A moorland village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland situated 30 miles south of both Edinburgh & Glasgow. In 2020 the population was 1,360.
Summary: Early quoiting medals are highly collectable & this is an excellent example. Good luck!
