Description

Five Years at the Radiation Lab, Presented to Members of the Radiation Laboratory by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, 1947. It is the first and only edition of the book, an illustrated quarto with cloth-covered boards, its production credited to C. Newton, Thelma E. Peterson, and Nancy Joy Perkins. The volume was presented as a souvenir for members of the lab, most famous for the developmental work it did on radar, an essential element in the Allies march to victory in World War Two. It is accompanied by two 8" by 10" photographs, one loose, the other, 14" by 15 1/4", matted and framed. The first bears a stamp on the reverse, dated 1936, from the High Voltage Engineering Corporation. The other has a small legend on the top "1st X Ray". Both photos are in very good condition, with slight signs of age. The text block of the book is slightly wobbly in the binding, with a clean interior. There are photographs on the front and rear paste-downs continuing on the ffep. Both the paste-downs have pieces torn away. The bindings are fairly soiled, sunned and stained.
