Attractive specimen of fluorescent unknowns from the Billy Springs mine highlight this choice specimen which is from a very remote location, even for Australian's! The Billy Springs mine was a Silver, Copper, Lead and Zinc deposit that was mined on random basis from 1890-1914. Mineralogically, the Billy Springs mine looked promising but the complex nature of the ore made it un-economical.

This rare specimen is from the Billy Springs mine, Mount Fitton homestead, Arkaroola Station, North Flinders Ranges, South Australia, Australia. For more information on this remarkable deposit contact me directly. You must use a good quality SW/UV lamp to see the color.

This is a very bright small-size cabinet specimen and the last one.

Compare natural photo of specimen on a US one dollar bill for scale.

Specimen AUS-296 is 2.50"x 1.40"x 1" and weighs 1.6 ounces.

GF has stolen over 2 thousand pounds of fluorescent rock that we were to split 50/50, he took it all. He has deceived many folks into believing he was cheated. He simply denies his receipt of PayPal payments. This way he can rationalize depriving me of the rock I mined. He spins a good story but that is all it is. For details contact me directly.

Looking for out-of-date copies of Mineralogical Record (MR)? I have issues going back to 1977 for sale.

I'm back from a 3 week collecting trip to Australia. New material will be posted soon. Met up with some distant relatives who kindly escorted me to several mines.

Notes on Ultraviolet;

The bottom line is this; The higher quality the Ultraviolet (UV) source, the better fluorescent minerals look (Don't cheap out). Critical factors include; lamp filter (Hoya glass vs Plastic filter or lens), lamp wattage, bulb composition, lamp construction, wave length and distance of lamp to specimen. For best results with any UV source, observe against a black, non-fluorescent, non-reflective background, in complete darkness with eyes adapted. To dark adapt your eye's, you must be in complete darkness for approximately seven (7) minutes. The photos here were taken using Shortwave (SW), Midwave (MW) or Longwave (LW) lamps, metered and exposed to show fluorescent response to its best advantageThe more powerful the ultraviolet lamp, the brighter the fluorescent response. I will indicate which wavelength is appropriate for the particular specimen being offered at auction. I use 2-9 watt SW/UV lamps to illuminate most specimens and for Longwave (LW) I use an Engenious Designs LGHTSBR LW/UV Lamp. With some extra large specimens I use a Super Bright II and a single 9 watt SW/UV overhead lamp for proper illumination.  Weight and measurements of rocks are approximate and do not account for necessary shipping materials (box, bubble wrap, labels, tape, etc) which can add anywhere between 4 ounces (minimum) to 10 ounces per parcel.

Please pay within four (4) days unless other arrangements have been made. Due to recent changes at Ebay, it is now necessary for me to ship purchases within one business day of receiving payment. I will often ship the same day if payment is made sufficiently early. Please, if you want to combine shipping with subsequent purchases, do not pay until I invoice you with the correct discounted combined shipping. Just let me know when you are ready for the invoice. If you pay, I have no choice but to ship. I will hold an "open box" for up to 14 days allowing you the opportunity to add items to one box and thereby minimizing shipping charges. But only if you contact me first.

International shipping is not cheap and PayPal adds to the problem by charging a higher percentage for international transactions. Ebay also charges a commission on the shipping paid for both international and domestic purchases. I charge you what it costs me - I do not profit from shipping. Once I mail or ship a package, the time in route or ANY damage to specimen(s) is out of my control. I do pack all specimens using the latest techniques and care. If you are not happy with an item, please contact me first before leaving feedback or opening a case. I will make it right.
