An interesting original Georgian handwritten letter dated 26 February 1816, written at Alnwick, Northumberland, and concerning Mrs Catherine (Cath.) Anderson of North Sunderland, Belford.
The letter relates to a property or tenancy matter and the terms of a lease. Mrs Anderson appears to have been approached previously regarding the matter and is warned that further delay could result in the covenant contained within the lease being enforced.
The letter includes numerous handwritten alterations, crossings-out and additions, suggesting this may have been retained as a draft or copy of formal estate/legal correspondence.
The lower section records Mrs Anderson's name and address as North Sunderland, Belford, together with an additional contemporary note apparently referring to a similar letter being sent to another person at the same place.
A fascinating over 200-year-old piece of Northumberland social, property and local history, ideal for a collector of Georgian manuscripts, antique legal documents, genealogy or Northumberland ephemera.
I think the bottom note says:
(The like sent to Mr John Taylor's
of same place)
Condition
Good antique condition for its age. Expected age-related toning, light staining/foxing, handling marks and numerous original folds/creases from being folded and stored. There are contemporary crossings-out, corrections and annotations throughout. Some handwriting is difficult to decipher.
Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description and condition.
