Renowned for his paintings of the industrial towns of North West England, Lancashire-born artist L.S. Lowry (1887-1976) had a distinctive and enchanting style, depicting the everyday life of the world around him. Although Lowry's seascapes are lesser-known, the sea is a topic to which he returned time and again over the course of his career. Yachts is a delightful study in creams and yellows with a sun-streaked sky, plenty of activity on the water and a variety of people and dogs on the picture.
