A wonderful original Victorian CDV photograph album, complete with a collection of genuine Carte de Visite (CDV) photographs.

The album is bound in an attractive deep burgundy/red cover with decorative impressed borders and is fitted with two ornate brass-coloured metal clasps, both featuring an attractive repeating chevron pattern and decorative end mounts.

Inside are numerous original Victorian CDVs, including studio portraits of men, women, children, babies and family groups. The collection provides a fascinating glimpse into Victorian life, fashion, hairstyles and photography during the second half of the 19th century.

The photographs are housed within the album's original thick gilt-edged aperture pages, giving the whole piece a particularly impressive appearance when opened.

Condition

Good antique condition considering its considerable age, with expected wear from age, handling and use.

The burgundy outer covering has some rubbing, marks and general age-related wear. The decorative metal clasps are still present although broken, remain an attractive feature of the album.

The internal gilt-edged pages show age toning, discolouration, marks and general wear, with some splits, small tears and losses around the photograph apertures and edges.

The CDVs vary in condition, with varying degrees of fading, toning, foxing/spotting, marks and surface wear, all consistent with genuine Victorian photographs of this age.

Overall, the album retains a wonderful original Victorian appearance and patina and is particularly desirable for still containing its collection of period CDV photographs.
