A lovely old vintage advertising tin for Burns, Oates & Washbourne, the well-known Catholic publishers and suppliers of religious goods. The tin features the company name together with their London addresses and branches in Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

Measuring approximately 14 x 7 x 4 cm, it has a hinged lid and retains its original green finish with black printed advertising. It may originally have been used to hold a rosary or another Catholic devotional item, although the exact original contents are unknown.

Given that Burns, Oates & Washbourne were a major Roman Catholic publisher and religious supplier, I think it is quite plausible that it held a rosary, possibly a boxed devotional set or larger crucifix/rosary combination.

In well-used vintage condition with age-related wear throughout. There is considerable surface marking, staining, discolouration, scratches and areas of rust/corrosion, particularly to the interior and reverse. The printed advertising remains readable in most areas.
