Antique Late Victorian period, Rare Travellers writing accessory in the form of a leather clad gilded metal box with a Combination interior featuring an Inkwell, match vesta, sealing wax/candle holdall and double ended combination dip pen / pencil.

Opening on piano hinged spine via way of hidden push button lid the front wall the box interior has the double ended dip pen installed to the inside lid via way of a catch cradle, simply remove to use, each end of the pen barrel having a removable terminal, one a dip pen, one a writing pencil (needs lead shaft to function).

The floor of the box features a proud socket mount to the front within a hollow compartment which would have accommodated a sealing wax candle (or similar), this folds down flat to use and reveals a spent candle sick drawer to the side,the back tier features a match vesta box to the left, striking plate to the lid which lifts up to reveal a storage compartment for matches, to the right is a traditional dome lidded inkwell with roundel turned pattern, to open release the safety catch to the front and the lid springs open to reveal a removable glass ink reservoir.

In good condition throughout, shows only minor wear from age and previous use/handling (please see photographs) overall a good example of the period.

When closed shut the box measures 9.5 cm x 6.2 cm x 4.2 cm in dimension, the dip pen when assembled measures 11.5 cm.
