Background Information

Deal is a historic coastal town in Kent, situated on the English Channel close to the famous Goodwin Sands, making its seafront a hive of activity for maritime and fishing trades during the Edwardian period. The "Beach House Temperance Hotel" on the parade catered to visitors participating in the popular 19th and early 20th-century temperance movement, which abstained from alcohol. Raphael Tuck & Sons, established in London, was one of the world's most successful and prolific postcard publishers, known for receiving a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria and subsequent monarchs for their high-quality printing production.
