Stephen Skillitzi Sculpture

A multimedia sculpture by Stephen Skillitzi of a group of flowers turning towards the sun, produced in glass with ceramics for stems and flower centres, which also have metallic rings. The bases of the stems are surrounded by some imitation grass, probably in metal.
Undated, but produced probably in the 1990s. Signed on the underside.

In very good vintage condition, there is a tiny loss to one end of the clear glass base, pictured.

A most unusual piece by one of Australia’s leading glass and ceramic artists.

Size: 27.5 cm high, base 21 x 11 cm diam; weight 2.6 Kg.

Stephen Skillitzi first worked in ceramics prior to becoming interested in glass, building a hot-glass furnace in Woolloomooloo, creating the nation's first independent artist glass studio. He is celebrated for pioneering the independent hot-glass movement in Australia during the early 1970s.
