The Wizard of Oz is a 13-episode American animated television series produced by DIC Animation City that premiered on ABC on September 8, 1990. The show served as an official animated sequel to the iconic 1939 MGM musical film, utilizing the specific visual designs and imagery to which DIC secured the rights from Turner Entertainment.

Plot Overview:

The series begins with Dorothy Gale back home in Kansas, but she is quickly pulled back to the Land of Oz using her ruby slippers. Upon her arrival, she discovers that her old nemesis, the Wicked Witch of the West, has been resurrected by her loyal winged monkeys.

The Wicked Witch has seized control of the Emerald City and transformed its citizens into frozen emerald statues. To make matters worse, she has stolen the characters' rewards from the original film—the Scarecrow's diploma, the Lion's medal, and the Tin Man's clockwork heart. She also casts a spell causing the West Wind to constantly blow the Wizard away in his hot air balloon so he cannot help. Dorothy reunites with her companions to travel across Oz, dodge the witch's traps, and rescue the moving Wizard.Key Production Facts
