Rare and decorative bronze art plaque mounted on a black-stained oak panel.
The plaque depicts a dramatic Viking longship scene in which sirens lure sailors with their song, a theme inspired by Nordic and maritime mythology. In the upper right corner appears the inscription “HEKS 1923.” The word heks means witch in Danish, but in this context it may also be the artist’s name, pseudonym, or the title of the work. The exact attribution remains unknown.
The Hungarian inscription on the lower part of the plaque appears to have been engraved later and reads:
“To Béla Tóth – 1923 – Szeged Rowing Association”
(Szegedi Csónakázó Egylet)
The bronze plaque is mounted on an original black-stained oak backing board.
