Here is a remarkable William Comyns English Sterling Silver Reticulated Serving Spoon from the 1890s
The spoon has an ornately pierced bowl with clearly struck but hard to find hallmarks for London and makers mark for William Comyns into the intricate pattern of the bowl. The date mark is obscured, but based on matching pieces, it is most likely from the 1890s. The workmanship is stunning, typical of the high quality silver items produced by William Comyns.
There is a bird to center of bowl. Note to the top of handle a bird and the handle rest is in the shape of a ram.
Overall the spoon is in an excellent condition. This is a piece that would add lustre to any collection of William Comyns silver. It has some remnants of a gold-wash, particularly on the underside.
The spoon is 8” long and the pierced bowl is 3 1/2” wide at its widest point. The spoon weighs approximately 73 grams.
