Stunning Salvaged & Repurposed S.S Canberra Bridge Window Coffee Table
SS Canberra was a former ocean liner, which later operated on cruises, in the P&O fleet from 1961 to 1997. She was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast and famously served as a troopship during the Falkland Islands conflict in 1982.
She was affectionately known as the “Great White Whale” and she proved vital in transporting 3 Commando Brigade to the islands more than 9,000 nautical miles from the UK to the heart of the conflict in San Carlos Water, arriving on the 21 May as part of the landings by British forces to retake the islands.
After the war, she was converted back to a cruise ship and remained so until 1997, she was sold to ship breakers for scrapping on 10 October 1997 at the Gadani ship-breaking yard, Pakistan.
This wonderful repurposed polished aluminium bridge window is in fine fettle, fitted with toughened glass and supported by four aluminium legs, measuring 40cmH x 108cmW x 78cmD, creating a sublime coffee table!
Great memento from a revered war hero!
