Central text reads 武德 meaning "Military Virtue".

Text around the rim reads 录道大會中庄尚武顧请田 literally "Record of the great Daoist general Assembly, Zhuang Shangwu invited Gu Tian".

录道大會 could also be read as "Assembly for Recruiting Disciples of the Way". I translate 录道大會中庄尚武顧请田 best as "At the Daoist Assembly Zhuang Shangwu recruited Gu Tian".

This cup is pre Chinese Communist Revolution and represents a crossroads of Daoist fraternal organizations with the Republic Of China military.

After the 1949 revolution and into the years of the cultural revolution items like this would have been systematically destroyed in China, ROC/KMT memorabilia is still restricted in China to this day.

I'm confident the only reason this cup still survives is because it was looted by a Japanese soldier during the 1930s Japanese occupation of China, therefore it wasn't in China during and after the communist revolution. I believe this because I acquired it from Japan with a collection of Japanese second Sino-Japanese war cups.

The following is the same description in traditional Chinese for any buyers in Taiwan, ROC items are more popular there.
