TITLE :   JR 01 Computer

in 1970, the big winner of the French toy Oscar was the JR01 computer. Designed by the brand Les Jouets Rationnels in collaboration with Honeywell Bull engineers, this plastic desk allowed users to learn about binary logic and programming using electrical cords and plugs.
The instruction booklets offer several fun exercises, particularly those designed to solve binary logic problems. These involve trying to turn on the console's lights by plugging pins into holes and moving the pins, all simulating the operation of a real computer. Other activities are suggested in the instructions: card games, dice games, or even match games, for which the computer guesses values.
The JR 01 is now considered the first "computer" for the general public. It consisted of:
  • A plastic programming console
  • Electrical cords and metal studs for logical connections
  • A set of playing cards and a 2 dice
  • Two booklets (Games and Principles)
