A really interesting read about the music scene in and around Richmond. Starting with Jazz moving to R&B and beyond - psychedelia and prog as well as the folk scene. If you are interested in music in the UK from the late 50’s to beginning of the 70’s a must read, with the Stones, Yardbirds etc struck a real chord The book is well written showing the lives of the bohemian audience from the trad days, through the mods & beatniks to the hippies as well as the bands that played there. The principal venues were the hotel opposite Richmond station and another run down hotel on Eel Pie Island in the middle of the River Thames, a stones throw from Twickenham town centre. Both of these venues were well connected to central London by train, bus and underground services so it wasn't just locals that came to see the Stones, The Who and The Yardbirds along with a host of other bands and now famous musicians. Even the Beatles came to check out the opposition.
