This book is an old telegraphic code guide/manual for Financiers, Merchants, Shipowners, Brokers, Etc. It catalogs indexes of codes needed for business communication over the telegraph. It's a fourth edition, please don't be confused with the picture showing the publishers copy of the preface to the 1st edition (it was an interesting introduction).
A very fascinating insight to how we communicated before the phone/cell phone. An advertisement page for streamship travel from New York, Charleston and on to Florida is striking.
The book is stained mostly on the cover and on part of the first/last few pages but is fully readable. It's dated 1899 with a original price of $5 ($200 today). All internal code listings are clean. First page has a couple 1 inch tears from the side.
