The Cabinet is a beautiful work of craftsmanship on its own merit! This classic and very desirable turntable is cosmetically outstanding and plays superbly. The plinth is in great condition, all the bright work on the table and tonearm are in outstanding unmarked condition. There are a few scratches on the unit, but you must look very close to see them which is consistent with a 50+ year-old unit.
But, regardless how good the turntable you still need a quality Phono Cartridge to extract and deliver the high-quality sound from the vinyl, this is an area of neglect for most. A turntable regardless of its price will only sound as good as its cartridge, so this unit has been matched with a new AUDIO-TECHNICA AT3600L moving magnet Phono Cartridge.

TURNTABLE DESCRIPTION:
With the 1229, Dual has achieved what many audio experts have called the no-compromise automatic.
The most dramatic example of this is the mode selector that shifts the entire tonearm base - down for single play, up for multiple play.
Thus, the stylus tracks at precisely the correct angle in both modes of play.
The 8 3/4-inch tonearm, the longest of any automatic, tracks flawlessly at as low as 0.25 gram.
Other 1229 features include 12 inch a dynamically balanced 7lb platter, powerful continuous pole / synchronous motor, built in illuminated strobe with adjustable viewing angle and a calibrated tracking pressure dial.
The unit has 3 speeds with one semitone pitch variation on all three speeds, and the torsionally rigid, extra-long all-metal tonearm features four-point Gimbal type bearing.

CARTRIDGE DESCRIPTION:
AUDIO-TECHNICA’S AT3600 is another of AUDIO-TECHNICA’S series featuring the moving magnet system. Medium priced, it incorporates state of the art cartridge technologies; including a magnetic circuit with centre shield, low mass dual magnet stylus assembly using alinco magnets etc. It offers unprecedented flat frequency response and outstanding sound clarity and definition. The body is made from a rigid high-density structure, which ensures that the superior basic performance remains unaffected by harmful resonance
The AT3600 integrates the range of the sonic bandwidth very well: no part of the spectrum sticks out at the listener. It doesn’t sound bright and it doesn’t sound dull at the top frequencies. Mid-range is clear and detailed with no spittiness on vocals.
The AT3600 Phono cartridge is a wonderful representation of one of AUDIO-TECHNICA'S cartridges. The cartridge is best known for its excellent musicality. It is a warm & mellow sounding cartridge – very dynamic – separation is most excellent - nice tight natural sounding bass [not boomy at all] – Highs are very crisp yet never sounding metallic or artificial. The sound stage is really where this cartridge shines. While listening with one’s eyes closed, you actually hear not only stereo but a distinct three dimensional sound stage where the musicians and singers are positioned as in a concert. The cartridge is absolutely a fantastic cartridge with outstanding value, high technology, and reasonable price.
The AUDIO-TECHNICA’S AT3600 Phono cartridge uses a highly polished special conical stylus to very accurately extract record groove information with a minimum of wear. AUDIO-TECHNICA uses a thin-wall alloy tube cantilever (the hollow rod that extends from the cartridge to the diamond tip), for low mass and low resonance.
Lastly, the AT3600 Phono cartridge reproduces a wide, extended frequency response with low distortion. It also offers excellent tracking at 2.5 – 3.5 grams, saving your LP's from undue wear.
