This is an early 1900s silver gelatin, vintage original glossy snapshot photograph, (size 4½x3 inches), of a Linotype machine operator at work in the late 1800s or early 1900s. For decades around the turn of the century, this was the most efficient way newspapers and periodicals set type for print. Most commonly men worked these mechanical beasts, but some women learned as well. The Linotype machine was the cutting edge in print work. This is a rare historical image in the world of print media, anyway. I do not know any more details about the image, who or where.
This photograph is in very good to great condition, with beautiful detail and contrast in the image. No rips or tears. Guaranteed vintage original photograph. On reverse, as shown, are some remnants of old black scrapbook paging. Of course, the watermarks "ebay" do not appear on the actual photo. Unique and RARE!
