This charming needle book dates to the Victorian era. The front cover is decorated with intricate beadwork on a rich green velvet ground. The velvet is padded, allowing it to double as a pin cushion. The back cover has a tartan pattern.

The needle case opens like a book, revealing pieces of fabric to hold the needles. Inside the back cover is a pleated paper pocket for small items such as buttons.

The covers would originally have fastened together with purple ribbon. A length is still attached to the back cover, but the one to the front has been detached. The case is otherwise in excellent condition for its age, with the beadwork complete and the colours still bright.

It measures 9.2 cm (3.62 inches) long and 7.1 cm (2.8 inches) wide.
