This original vintage production cel is of the ENTIRE FAT ALBERT GANG from the 1970s/80s "FAT ALBERT" series by Filmation that aired on CBS! It is EXTREMELY RARE to find a cel of the ENTIRE CAST OF CHARACTER strolling through the neighborhood all together! JUST LOOK AT THAT IMAGE SIZE! Production cels with such a large and iconic image are extremely rare and quite sought after. It would be difficult to find another one like this at any price!
THE IMAGE IS EXTREMELY LARGE!
Even better, the cel is Custom Matted and Framed, and on a HAND PAINTED PRODUCTION BACKGROUND FROM THE SERIES (There is only 1 of these for every 1000+ cels)!! This greatly adds to the value and presentation of this piece!
Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids is a landmark American animated television series that originally aired on CBS from September 9, 1972, to August 10, 1985. Created, produced, and hosted by comedian Bill Cosby, the groundbreaking show was based on his own childhood memories growing up in a working-class North Philadelphia neighborhood. It stands out as one of the first major animated series to feature a predominantly African-American cast.
Setting: The daily life of a group of urban adolescents navigating life in a South Philadelphia neighborhood.Live-Action Bookends: Every episode begins and ends with live-action segments hosted by Bill Cosby, who directly emphasizes the moral of the day.The Junkyard Gang: The kids congregate in a local junkyard, which serves as their makeshift headquarters.Musical
Closings: Early seasons feature the gang assembling homemade instruments out of trash to play a song summarizing the lesson learned.
The Junkyard Gang Characters
Fat Albert: The lovable, heavy-set leader and moral conscience of the group, famous for his catchphrase, "Hey, hey, hey!".
Bill: Fat Albert's logical, level-headed best friend, based directly on Cosby himself.
Russell: Bill's smaller, sarcastic younger brother, wearing a signature heavy winter coat and hat.
Mushmouth: A well-meaning friend known for speaking in a unique, repetitive "ubbi-dubbi" style slang.Dumb Donald: A goofy boy who is easily recognized by a pink knit cap pulled completely over his face with cut-out eyes.
Rudy: The group's smooth-talking, sharp-dressed, and sometimes arrogant resident wiseguy.Weird
Harold: A tall, clumsy, and gangly kid who always wears mismatched socks.
Bucky: A friend with a distinct, prominent overbite.
Cultural Impact and Legacy
The show was highly praised by educators for its sensitivity to real-world social problems. Unlike standard Saturday morning cartoons of the 1970s that relied on fantasy or pure slapstick, Fat Albert tackled heavy, grounded issues. Episodes directly addressed peer pressure, bullying, learning disabilities, safety, and family struggles.
The cartoon also spawned a show-within-a-show superhero parody called The Brown Hornet, an African-American space hero who mirrored the lessons the kids were learning. Decades later, Twentieth Century Fox released a live-action/animated hybrid film adaptation simply titled Fat Albert in 2004, starring Kenan Thompson as the titular character.
Really beautiful!!. This cel was actually used in the production of an episode of the Super Friends, which played on Saturday Mornings. AHHHH, Cartoon memories!
