The "ebayPRYANKEE" watermark shown across the image is NOT on the actual photograph. This was simply added to the ebay image to keep others from copying without permission.
In several auctions tonight, I will be listing a large collection of original antique albumen photos of Mexico. All are fresh to the market, from a local Florida estate.
Photographer: unknown
Provenance: The reverse of the photo features the ink collector's stamp of JOAO D'ORNELLAS BRUGES. The stamp is designed as a heraldic belt or garter, signifying it was part of the private archive of the Ornellas Bruges family, a prominent aristocratic lineage from the Azores (Counts of Villa da Praia) with deep ties to Portuguese colonial administration.
The photo features a detailed original typed identification label on verso.
Date: 1902
Location: Chinde, Zambeze, Portuguese East Africa
Size: approximately 8" x 6"
PHOTOGRAPHY NOTE:
Because this original photograph is on thin paper and has a slight natural curl, the frontal views shown in this listing were taken with the photo placed under a sheet of thin, non-glare glass to ensure it lies flat. Please note that because of the glass, the actual photograph is much sharper and more detailed than the digital images show.
Sold just as-found, with minor damage to lower left corner, as shown. No other rips, tears, holes, creases, or repairs. Image is crisp and clear, with excellent contrast and focus, so it could be successfully enlarged, if desired. Backside of photo is clean and unmarked, as photo has never been mounted in an album.
GUARANTEED TO BE AN ORIGINAL ANTIQUE PHOTOGRAPH, AND NOT A LATER COPY OR REPRODUCTION!
