This is the scarce original 1850-1870 subscription folio printing of Gaspey in half leather covers. 3 of 4 (volume 4 is absent and was Queen Victoria only). 

These are tighter and cleaner than the other set I am selling.

Size is 11" x 9".

A particular feature of this set is the portraits on heavy paper that are bound at the beginning of each volume - over 150 in total. I have tried to show the sheer number of portraits in 3 of the pictures. These books were often broken up for the illustrations, and it is rare to find them complete.

Details as follows:

Vol 1: 864 pages. A tear at the top and bottom of spine, otherwise not bad. Boards a bit grubby but no splitting or detachment. Text block complete with some staining here and there to the portraits. The discolouration on the title page is the only page like that.

Vol 2: 864 pages. Spine good with no splitting. Very slight wear to boards but no splitting or detachment. Text block complete with some staining here and there to the portraits.

Vol 3: 824 pages. Spine damaged at bottom half with some loss. Some wear to boards but no splitting or detachment. Text block complete with some staining here and there to the portraits.

I haven't seen this edition for sale anywhere.

The portraits are a particular feature, and are very good.
