Historical Context
The Bay Parkway-Avenue J Route (B-6) was a critical east-west corridor serving the Bensonhurst, Midwood, and Flatlands neighborhoods. Issued in 1939, this ticket captures the BMT system exactly eleven months before the historic 1940 city takeover. It represents a primary source document for the highly coordinated bus-to-ferry transit network that served the residents of Brooklyn at the close of the decade.
