Because it is a soft, abrasive, volcanic rock, pumice acts as a great natural tool for wearing down your pets continuously growing teeth and nails / claws. It is inviting for rodents as it is full of air holes and not dense, so the pet achieves success through gnawing at it. 

Each stone is between 1.5" to 2.5", weighing 30-40g each, so a box of 500grams contains 12-17 stones.
