For auction we have this fabulous mid 19th century silver cased open face pocket watch By Joshua Nelson, Liverpool.
The key wind Massey III movement has Liverpool windows to the fusee and is marked ‘Josh Nelson No 29 Denison Street Liverpool 1847 PATENT’.
The brass dust cover is engraved ‘Improved Detache’d Lever’.
The silver case has full Chester hallmarks for 1847, makers mark RB.
The white enamel dial has Roman numerals and gold/silver coloured hands (the silver coloured minute hand is a replacement), and a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock with Arabic numerals and a blued steel hand.
The movement is in good condition and good working order, running nicely when wound.
The enamel dial is has a few small cracks, a chip to the edge between 12 and 1 o’clock, another just above 10 o’clock and there is a vertical crack on the subsidiary dial (please see photos). The silver case has one or two small dents and some surface scratching.
The watch is being sold with a replacement key.
