Ford Sierra Ghia 4x4 2.9i – Rare Classic Project

A rare opportunity to own a true piece of Ford history – the Sierra Ghia 4x4 2.9i. These cars are becoming increasingly hard to find, especially in 4x4 form, and are now firmly in modern classic territory. It is highly likely there are fewer than 10 still on the road in the UK (I got this information from Percival Motors).

Powered by the legendary 2.9-litre V6 Cologne engine, producing around 146bhp and 229Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel-drive system, this was one of the most capable Sierras of its time. It offers strong performance even by today’s standards, with 0–60mph in around 9 seconds and a top speed close to 125mph.

The Ghia trim level also means this car was well specified from factory, with features such as electric windows, power steering, central locking and alloy wheels – making it both a comfortable and capable classic cruiser.

But what really makes this car special is the story behind it.

This Sierra is one of my earliest childhood memories. It’s the car my dad taught me to drive in – long before I was anywhere near the legal age. It’s always held a special place in our family because of that.

For years, I searched for one of these cars to surprise him with. Eventually, we found this example and, as a family, bought it for him as a Christmas present so he could relive those memories and reconnect with a car he absolutely loved.

Unfortunately, now he’s retired, it’s become clear that it’s a bit too much of a project for him to take on himself. So, with some reluctance, we’ve decided to let it go.

This is very much a project car, but for the right person – especially a Ford enthusiast – it’s a fantastic opportunity to bring a rare and characterful Sierra back to its former glory.

We’d love to see it go to someone who appreciates what these cars are and what they represent.
