The 10 Franc coin reflects the economic and political climate of the Third Republic and was designed to revive the silver ecu after the inflationary period of World War I. Although officially demonetized in 1945, the coin ceased to circulate during the German occupation. The design was revived in 1945-49 by the Fourth Republic as a copper-nickel coin.
