Original World War II Heart-Shield Bible, issued to U.S. servicemen during the 1940s.
These compact New Testaments were distributed to troops with a protective brass-toned metal cover embossed with a cross and the words “May This Comfort and Protect You.” Inside is President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s printed message from the White House, encouraging soldiers to find courage and guidance in the Scriptures.
This example belonged to Leray E. Loftis of Denver, Colorado, whose name and address are handwritten inside — a poignant personal touch that adds authenticity and human history to the piece.
