Carlisle Indian school photographs (8)  ~ Native American Pennsylvania original

The Carlisle Indian Industrial School (1879–1918) in Pennsylvania forcibly housed approximately 7,800 to 10,000+ Indigenous children from over 140 distinct cultures, including Lakota, Cheyenne, Arapaho, Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache nations. The school was designed for cultural assimilation, aiming to "kill the Indian, save the man".
