Up for sale is a Seiko-made "Tomony" watch with a very 70s, colorful style.  This like all "Tomony" models were only released in Japan.  These were definitely not high-end models when they were released, and I think Tomony was basically like Alba in aiming at younger purchasers, but they are often very quirky and fun.  Even though this is a manual-wind watch, the 5001 movement was designed with a neat quirk - it cannot be "overwound" and just keeps winding rather than "stopping" when fully wound.  Seiko used a similar approach on at least one other JDM model I know of - the Alba Vient hand-wind models - but it's obviously not a common approach.  I purchased this directly from Japan.  The band is original, and is identical to others I own from Seiko from the era (with interesting "cutouts" near the lugs), aside from the band being stamped "Tomony" rather than Seiko.  It is, however, very short - it only has one removable link on each side.  I was able to wear it with a standard clasp extender even with my huge 7.75" wrist, but as-is it definitely wouldn't fit anything but a small wrist.

Mechanically, the watch appears to be running well and fully functional, though I doubt it has ever been serviced.  The watch hand-winds and sets as it should, and only lost 1 second when sitting on my table for 12 hours I observed it, though coincidentally happened to test it flipped upside down and it lost 9 seconds in 3 hours in that position.  So presumably it would benefit from regulation/service, but it could be worn as is and would likely still keep OK mechanical time.  Note that I didn't take a picture of the movement because the caseback is a snap-back type that I am anxious to try to remove without damaging the watch.

Cosmetically, it is very nice shape, but please check the photos out yourself.  You can really make out the different finishes on the case - the bezel portion of the case is dramatically brushed but the sides are polished.  I am sure it's never been polished.

Note: I haven't been selling in a long while as my watch buying trickled to nothing given the tariff situation.  But now I decided to do a major cull of my collection, and in particular I am selling off some watches that I own as duplicates of others differing only in colorway.  This will be a long term project but I have plenty more coming...

Happy bidding!

I'm an amateur collector of vintage Japanese watches, mostly Seiko and Citizen.  As such, I won't accept returns unless the watch arrives in different condition than as described.  Please examine all photos as they are part of my description.  This will only ship internationally via ebay's "global shipping program," which is the (expensive) quote you should automatically see in the listing if you aren't in the U.S.  In my first real attempt at using this, I received messages from folks in Spain, England, and France all telling me that it wouldn't let them bid, so I apologize if it does so for you - there's nothing I can do to correct it :(.  If you have a feedback score of less than 10, please contact me prior to bidding or I may cancel your bid.  I am happy to combine shipping costs as long as whatever I'm selling will fit safely in a flat rate small USPS box, but the Global Shipping Program won't let me do this unless you agree to cancel your auction wins and re-do the sale as a single Buy-it-Now option, so be warned of that eventuality if you are an international bidder.  I generally don't consider a buy-it-now option.  Thanks and happy bidding!
